Waqrapukara Acomayo Cusco is a newly discovered Inca fortress in Peru. It is located in the South of Cusco, precisely 61.7 kilometers (38.3 miles) away. It gets its name in Quechua after its distinct form. Waqra in Quechua means horn and Pukara mean Fortress.
The horn fortress sits in between two horn-shaped mountain peaks. It houses eight farming terraces, plazas, a ceremonial center, stairways made entirely of stones, and different Inca sites. The archaeological site sits at 4140 meters above sea level (13582 ft) above a massive ravine densely covered with forest.
We have designed the full-day Waqrapukara Trek to offer you an insight into the history. You will also get to know about the traditions of locals. They have preserved it since pre-Inca times.
Waqrapukara day trip begins with a three hours drive from the city of Cusco to a remote Andean village called Wayki (Huayqui). This is the starting point of the trek. From here it is a 550 meters hike to Waqrapukara Inca ruins.
You will be hiking through different ecological zones along the course of the Apurimac River. The route offers stunning views of Apurimac Canyon. You will also get to see cave paintings that are well preserved.
At Cusco Travel Agency, we have exclusive English-speaking tour guides for the tour. As locals from the region, they have immense knowledge about the culture and history. You will not only get to enjoy the stunning beauty of the fortress but also will get an introduction to the Incas history.

Waqrapukara Trek is a high-altitude experience. We strongly recommend you spend a few days in Cusco before the trek to avoid altitude sickness.
